Link to LO Spreadsheet and information on selecting an LO

With multiple years of historical playtime data available, this sheet shows estimated payout results for all LO slots. We have confidential business information in this presentation, so only distribute among your own team please! Below is a text-description of the contents of the spreadsheet.

This spreadsheet allows a game developer to estimate how games will perform in different LO's and competition scenarios based on past LO performance. The underlying data reflects playtime from July 1st 2021 -- June 30th 2022. Of course just because one LO had twice as much playtime as a different LO last year doesn't mean the same will happen this year, or that position 2 in an LO with 5 games will earn 26% of the playtime on average again, but we believe presenting this data can still help you make decisions about where to claim slots and invest time. NONE of these numbers should be taken as guarantees, or even accurate estimates. They are averages from the past year.

In the sheet, the tab titled START HERE: Instructions + Earnings Heat Map shows the PRR payout projections for all science + math LOs for the next year. Please read the instructions on the left for thorough information and how to read the document. A couple cells acting as variables can be edited, but the rest of the sheet is locked. It is recommended that you download your own copy of the sheet, as many folks will be granted access and may be trying to change these values at once. The payouts in each cell in this tab correlate to the LOs in the same table structure as seen in the LO Codes tab.

The tab SEE LO NAMES AND SLOT AVAILABILITY HERE shows the live view of which LOs currently have open slots, as well as a range of various revenue scenarios. Each LO also has its curriculum documentation linked in this tab.

The tabs titled LO Earnings Visualization: Bar Chart and LO Earnings Visualization: Treemap provides a visual on which topics (as represented by their LO Code) get the most playtime.

The tab titled Game Ratings is updated bi-weekly and lists the average rating for all instructional games live on the platform. This is not much of a usable tab for you, rather it serves as a reference for the spreadsheet when you are reviewing earnings per topic based on a new game’s projected average rating.

Strategy for choosing slots: Find opportunities in LOs by adjusting your game’s projected average rating across multiple outcomes. A safe projection uses the median game rating (3.8). If you are confident in your ability to deliver a well-rated game, you can input a rating higher than a 3.8. Keep in mind that a new 3.8-rated game in a popular LO might be the 3rd or 4th best game because it’s a competitive LO, but in other less popular LOs a new 3.8-rated game might step in as the top-rated game there. So there are situations where a 3.8 game in less popular LOs would earn more than a 3.8 in a more popular LO. The best rated game in each LO usually commands at least 30% of the overall playtime in its LO.

It is also important for developers to choose LOs that naturally interest them. It’s easier to create an engaging game if the topic interests you. If you don’t have interest in a topic, and you pick it because the financials look strong, it’s going to be more difficult to be creative and submit a game that could be among the best in its LO.
